ABSTRACT

This study provides insights into the pattern of COVID-19 research publications in Indonesia and aims to map out the contributions of social science scholars in the country during the pandemic, using bibliometric analysis. The analysis was conducted through desk research using the scientometric method from the Scopus database, with a total of 1,037 articles analysed. The research found that social sciences scholars in Indonesia made significant contributions to the fields of online learning, economics, business and management, public health and administration, and communication and media studies. The study also identified the influences of research areas, funding, open access, female first author, female co-authors, and international collaborative research on quartile and the number of citations. The implications of the study suggest that efforts should be made to promote gender diversity in research, allocate research funding appropriately, and encourage international collaboration. Authors should prioritize publishing in high quartile journals and opt for open access publication. Additionally, academic institutions and funding agencies should provide guidance on selecting reputable journals to maintain a culture of quality research.

ABSTRACT

Artificial intelligence is becoming more prevalent across diverse disciplines, and aerial vehicles are increasingly becoming "Unmanned”. It is beneficial when residents might otherwise be in danger, such as during COVID-19 medicine delivery, gathering information about the enemy, or using it in agriculture. This study aims to provide a scientometric assessment of the latest research centres, patterns, and global reach of UAVs from 2007 to 2022. The study uses bibliographic information downloaded in CSV format from Scopus to examine the in-depth visualization of the index item's properties. In addition to examining article expansion, field classifications, global dispersion, citation analysis, and the impact of the institutions and writers, the study examines UAV applications distributed throughout the world. To analyse term co-occurrence, we use a Java-based program called VOSviewer, which lists hubs and the latest innovations in UAV research. © Author (s) 2023.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study aims to utilize the bibliometric method to investigate the most important characteristics and key research topics in the literature on cryptocurrency research. Theoretical framework: This study used a text mining framework based on domain-level and knowledge structure analysis. Design/methodology/approach: Based on domain-level and knowledge structure analysis, this study used data from the Scopus database, which included 1,685 published articles from 2018 to 2023 on cryptocurrency research. Data analytics and visualization may be accomplished with the bibliometrix package in R software. Findings: The result found that, there has been a fifty percent annual growth in cryptocurrency research since 2018. Studying the most frequently used terms and phrases in the research makes it possible to see which research areas have the greatest impact. According to the results, (1) cryptocurrency market, (2) market efficiency, (3) herding behavior, (4) COVID pandemic, (5) safe haven, (6) stock markets, (7) financial markets, and (8) volatility spillovers should be the emphasis of future research. Research, Practical & Social implications: This article will be useful to scholars and practitioners looking for research directions. Based on the trending topics and knowledge structure of cryptocurrency research, this research also suggests potential new study topics for the future. Originality/value: The value of these findings revealed an increase and a new aspect of cryptocurrency research in the business field related to the continued expansion of empirical research documents, researchers/authors, global collaboration, and co-citations. © 2023 AOS-Estratagia and Inovacao. ABSTRACT

In research and policies, the identification of trends as well as emerging topics and topics in decline is an important source of information for both academic and innovation management. Since at present policy analysis mostly employs qualitative research methods, the following article presents and assesses different approaches – trend analysis based on questionnaires, quantitative bibliometric surveys, the use of computer-linguistic approaches and machine learning and qualitative investigations. Against this backdrop, this article examines digital applications in cultural heritage and, in particular, built heritage via various investigative frameworks to identify topics of relevance and trendlines, mainly for European Union (EU)-based research and policies. Furthermore, this article exemplifies and assesses the specific opportunities and limitations of the different methodical approaches against the backdrop of data-driven vs. data-guided analytical frameworks. As its major findings, our study shows that both research and policies related to digital applications for cultural heritage are mainly driven by the availability of new technologies. Since policies focus on meta-topics such as digitisation, openness or automation, the research descriptors are more granular. In general, data-driven approaches are promising for identifying topics and trendlines and even predicting the development of near future trends. Conversely, qualitative approaches are able to answer "why” questions with regard to whether topics are emerging due to disruptive innovations or due to new terminologies or whether topics are becoming obsolete because they are common knowledge, as is the case for the term "internet”.

ABSTRACT

The construction industry has been experiencing many occupational accidents as working on construction sites is dangerous. To reduce the likelihood of accidents, construction companies share the latest construction health and safety news and information on social media. While research studies in recent years have explored the perceptions towards these companies' social media pages, there are no big data analytic studies conducted on Instagram about construction health and safety. This study aims to consolidate public perceptions of construction health and safety by analyzing Instagram posts. The study adopted a big data analytics approach involving visual, content, user, and sentiment analyses of Instagram posts (n = 17,835). The study adopted the Latent Dirichlet Allocation, a kind of machine learning approach for generative probabilistic topic extraction, and the five most mentioned topics were: (a) training service, (b) team management, (c) training organization, (d) workers' work and family, and (e) users' action. Besides, the Jaccard coefficient co-occurrence cluster analysis revealed: (a) the most mentioned collocations were ‘construction safety week', ‘safety first', and ‘construction team', (b) the largest clusters were ‘safety training', ‘occupational health and safety administration', and ‘health and safety environment', (c) the most active users were ‘Parallel Consultancy Ltd.', ‘Pike Consulting Group', and ‘Global Training Canada', and (d) positive sentiment accounted for an overwhelming figure of 85%. The findings inform the industry on public perceptions that help create awareness and develop preventative measures for increased health and safety and decreased incidents.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThe lockdown of libraries has led to changes in the delivery of services. Reviewing many studies in this regard appears to be of great importance. Thus, this study aims to analyze the articles related to libraries and COVID-19 using the co-occurrence analysis.Design/methodology/approachThe current study is applied in terms of purpose and scientometrics in terms of type, which has been conducted using a retrospective bibliometric analysis method and drawing a science map. The relevant keywords were searched in the Scopus and 225 articles were reviewed in terms of author, year of publication, journal, organization and subject. Then, the VOSviewer software was used to analyze and illustrate the keywords and draw the scientific map of the articles.FindingsThe results showed that 225 articles by 496 authors from 66 countries and 379 organizations were published in the subject area of libraries and COVID-19. These articles have received 620 citations. The co-occurrence analysis of words showed that these scientific productions are classified into four clusters: "The role of libraries and librarians”, "The use of media, social network and communication technologies in order provide library services”, "Online Library Services” and "Infodemic and misinformation in the COVID-19 Pandemic”.Originality/valueIt is the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic that a scientific map has been drawn up of studies that have examined the role of libraries in this pandemic. The results of the present study may help libraries to access what they need to consider in any crisis.

PurposeThis paper aims to analyse through a bibliometric study the academic literature that relates entrepreneurship to foods.Design/methodology/approachA database of 1,300 papers published in the ISI Web of Science was generated. The bibliometric techniques allowed us to describe scientific literature evolution, most productive authors, institutions and countries, most relevant sources and documents, trend topics and social structure.FindingsThe results illustrate an upward trend, more accentuated in the last four years, in publishing papers relating entrepreneurship to the food industry.Originality/valueThis research is novel because although numerous articles relate the food industry to entrepreneurship, no bibliometric articles that analyse the scientific production that relates both terms have been found in the literature.

ABSTRACT

PurposeUsing science mapping analysis approach and co-word analysis, the present study explores and visualizes research fields and thematic evolution of the coronavirus. Based on this method, one can get a picture of the real content of the themes in the mentioned thematic area and identify the main minor and emerging themes.Design/methodology/approachThis study was conducted based on co-word science mapping analysis under a longitudinal study (from 1988 to 2020). The collection of documents in this study was further divided into three subperiods: 1988–1998, 1999–2009 and 2010–2020. In order to perform science mapping analysis based on co-word bibliographic networks, SciMAT was utilized as a bibliometric tool. Moreover, WoS, PubMed and Scopus bibliographic databases were used to download all records.FindingsIn this study, strategic diagrams were demonstrated for the coronavirus research for a chronological period to assess the most relevant themes. Each diagram depended on the sum of documents linked to each research topic. In the first period (1988–1998), the most centralizations were on virology and evaluation of coronavirus structure and its structural and nonstructural proteins. In the second period (1999–2009), with due attention to high population density in eastern Asia and the increasing number of people affected with the new generation of coronavirus (named severe acute respiratory syndrome virus or SARS virus), publications have been concentrated on "antiviral activity.” In the third period (2010–2020), there was a tendency to investigate clinical syndromes, and most of the publications and citations were about hot topics like "severe acute respiratory syndrome,” "coronavirus” and "respiratory tract disease.” Scientometric analysis of the field of coronavirus can be regarded as a roadmap for future research and policymaking in this important area.Originality/valueThe originality of this research can be considered in two ways. First, the strategic diagrams of coronavirus are drawn in four thematic areas including motor cluster, basic and transversal cluster, highly developed cluster and emerging and declining cluster. Second, COVID-19 is mentioned as a hot topic of research.

ABSTRACT

Background: We previously conducted bibliometric analysis of 6 North American neurosurgical journals. Objective: To perform a bibliometric analysis of 6 European neurosurgical journals to build on our previous studies. Methods: We searched Web of Science for articles published in Acta Neurochirurgica, British Journal of Neurosurgery, Child's Nervous System, Journal of Neurological Surgery Part A: Central European Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgical Sciences, and Neurosurgical Review between 2011 and 2020. We analyzed bibliometric parameters related to total annual document distribution, author metrics, journal metrics, country and continental distribution, institution, keywords, and journal impact. Results: European countries provided the greatest contributions. Acta Neurochirurgica followed by Child's Nervous System published the greatest number of articles and had the highest h-index and number of citations. From 2018 to 2020, total documents increased 79.6%, original articles increased 86.5%, review articles increased 103.6%, citations increased 79.6%, number of publishing authors increased 72.1%, number of authors in multi-author documents increased 72.4%, and author's keywords and keywords plus increased 72.4% and 27.0%, respectively. The collaboration index decreased 5.3% from 4.49 to 4.25. Annual published documents and citations were lower for European journals versus North American journals. Conclusion: Several parameters of the European journals increased by 2020. One interesting finding is that growth for the 6 journals dramatically increased in the 2 years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. While neurosurgeon free time during lockdowns may account for much of the increase in 2020, the trend began before this. Our analysis did not identify a cause for the pre-COVID increases.

ABSTRACT

The construction industry builds the essential infrastructure and contributes to the economic development of any nation. The productivity of the construction industry has been lagging behind manufacturing for many decades. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the vulnerability of the industry and its severe dependencies on manual, labour-oriented practices. The industry needs to become resilient and rebound quickly to recover from the impacts of the pandemic. The 3D printing or additive manufacturing concept offers to automate the processes of construction, improve efficiencies in design & construction, reduce wastage and sustainable development. The present paper intends to summarize the developments, trends, and application areas through a scientometric review. Research articles were obtained from the Scopus database. The USA leads the research studies followed by China, Australia, the UK and Germany. 339 documents were obtained from the initial search. These were systematically filtered for review through the PRISMA framework. The screened 193 articles were quantitatively analyzed through the VOS viewer software. The study summarizes the current research trends, themes, and future research trends. The study contributes to the existing body of knowledge and intends to raise awareness of the concept and encourage researchers and practitioners to adopt the concept on a larger scale, especially in India. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. ABSTRACT

Climate change has become one of the leading problems around the world. The transport sector is one of the major contributors to climate change. At the same time, climate change is also affecting transportation facilities and travel behaviour. This study proposed a bibliometric approach to explore the structure evolution development trends of this knowledge domain with a broader search scope and more objective results compared with a manual review. A total of 4073 peer-reviewed articles were collected from the WoS core collection database to conduct scientometric analysis. The collaboration analysis shows that the US, China, and European countries dominate this field, and international organisations' and government agencies' reports on climate change form the basis of this research field. A total of 14 co-citation clusters were identified, and the research on climate change and transportation primarily focused on the topics of policy options, travel behaviour, the COVID-19 lockdown, environmental cost, and air quality. Keyword co-occurrence evolution analysis was also conducted to track the latest research trends. Based on the results, we propose trends in four areas for future research. This study provides a holistic knowledge map for climate change and transportation research's past, present, and future. ABSTRACT

Aim: Scientometrics refers to the analysis of scientific literature related to a certain field. Even though the number of publications on methyl alcohol poisoning has recently increased, there has been no bibliometric or scientometric analysis conducted to date. In 2020 in particular, cases of methyl alcohol poisoning have increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is expected to draw greater attention to this field. Material(s) and Method(s): All data used in this study were collected from four databases accessed via the Web of Science. All studies published between 1980 and 2019 identified by searching for the keywords "methanol" and "poisoning" were included in the study. The relationship between the number of publications and productivity and characteristics of countries was analyzed with Spearman's correlation test, while GunnMap and VOSviewer were used to create infographics and infomaps. This study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki Results: A total of 744 articles, most of which were original (79.70%), were identified from the four databases accessed via the Web of Science. An analysis of the number of publications by country ranked the United States in the first place, with 174 articles (23.387 %), while the Czech Republic was found to have the most productive researchers. The most popular area was toxicology (20.565%), and Charles University was the most productive institution. It was found that the number of publications and citations did not increase over the years Discussion: The developed countries dominated the literature on methyl alcohol poisoning. It was further observed that articles on methyl alcohol abuse started to appear in 2020 in developing countries, which can be attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the mistaken belief that it has anti-viral properties. Since the diagnosis and treatment of methyl alcohol poisoning are gaining significance, we recommend that researchers be encouraged to make further studies in this area.Copyright © 2022, Derman Medical Publishing. ABSTRACT

The data exploration metrics through scientific mapping aim to find out the level of interest in social networks and politics 2.0 within the scientific community worldwide;the development of literary production in times of pandemic to which research is limited;the creation of both research and review articles sectioned by countries, authors, and keywords within the search carried out in the Scopus database. In the first instance, an analysis of the scientific literature is carried out in the primary citation index that is used worldwide to measure high-impact scientific production, such as Scopus;a total of 139,710 jobs were obtained, which were filtered only in the years of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in several jobs of 17,049. The results that could be analyzed through scientific mapping showed that scientific production increased in the keyword social networks (online) with several authors who mostly belong to developed and English-speaking countries;Mexico is the only country in Latin America within the results obtained through the maps. Finally, the analysis of the clusters relates keywords such as social networks, machine learning, and big data;within the systematic review, there are still no studies related to politics 2.0;therefore, it is concluded that the political keyword 2.0 still has no connection in terms of high-impact scientific production. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

Coronavirus disease has caused city blockades, making people spend longer in residential areas than ever before. Human well-being and health are directly affected by the suppression of the epidemic through residential planning and design. In this regard, scholars from all over the world have made significant efforts to explore the links between COVID-19 and residential planning and design, trying to adjust the states in time to cope with the effects of COVID-19 in the long run. This study is based on Bibliometrix to conduct a scientometric analysis of the literature on "Effects of COVID-19 on residential planning and design (ECRPD)” published in Web of Science and Scopus from 2019 to October 2022. The aim of this study is to comprehensively present the scientific knowledge of ECRPD research through general characteristics' analysis, citation analysis, and horizontal conceptual structure analysis, and try to summarize how residential planning and design responds to COVID-19, so as to provide support and advice for urban planners, builders, and policy makers. According to the results, ECRPD research is growing significantly, and the scientific productivity of it has increased exponentially. The main effects and feedback are characterized by three aspects: residential environment, residential building space and planning space, and residential traffic and community management. Generally, ECRPD research has expanded beyond the disciplines of architecture and planning. Environmental and energy concerns have attracted the most attention, though practical research into residential building space is relatively limited. To fully deal with COVID-19's multiple negative facets, it is imperative to promote cross-disciplinary and multi-field collaboration, implement new technologies and methods for traditional disciplines, develop bioclimatic buildings to cope with environmental changes, and strengthen practical research in residential building and planning to ensure that a sustainable and resilient living environment is created in the post-pandemic era. © 2023 by the authors.

Sugimoto and Larivière's unique scientometric approach gained recognition within medicine when they coauthored a bibliometric analysis on gender and authorship in The Lancet's 2019 theme issue on advancing women in science, medicine, and global health. [...]despite women being more than half of all medical and science undergraduates for many years, Sugimoto and Larivière estimate that very slow growth in women's representation among scientists in clinical medicine means gender parity in authorship will not be reached in that field before 2049. By contrast, women science leaders typically advance early career researchers, share credit, and lead gender diverse teams, which have higher scientific impact. An acknowledged limitation is the use of one aspect of social identity, gender, in the binary assignment available in current classification systems and they were unable in most cases to include race or ethnicity indicators except where national census data allowed. The simple recognition of the editorial process being a social one—involving judgement, priority setting, negotiation, inevitable bias, and all the other aspects that define human behaviour—gives rise to seeing how decisions about what to publish and which messages to showcase are the product of a social process in which diverse sets of individuals applying high standards of editorial quality and scientific excellence nevertheless deploy agency, make choices, and exercise privilege.

ABSTRACT

Identifying and quantifying ecotourism opportunities are critical processes in sustainable tourism planning, which is challenging, since ecotourism is a Complex Adaptive System (CAS). This study investigated Ecotourism Opportunities Measurements (EOMs) in the literature and mapped the research trends to provide practical implications for research in this area. A systematic quantitative literature review began with a scientometric analysis in CiteSpace to examine the existing knowledge and the state of the art in EOMs. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol was then applied to refine the initial search results, and snowballing was used to collect additional articles. The refined set was then thematically coded and quantitatively analyzed. Our findings show that existing studies on ecotourism opportunities predominantly focus on the impacts of ecotourism on the environment, stakeholders' contributions toward ecotourism development, sustainability, and responsible behavior of local communities in ecotourism promotion. In addition, five dimensions have been identified under which ecotourism opportunities can be measured, including nature, environmental education/protection, sustainability, socio-cultural benefits, and tourist satisfaction. Existing scales or indices assess potential destinations qualitatively rather than quantitatively. In contrast, an index-based approach might help to solve the challenges of evaluating ecotourism opportunities as a CAS, as well as to quantitatively assess potential destinations to support decision-making related to ecotourism promotion.

ABSTRACT

During the last years, several infectious diseases have caused widespread nationwide epidemics that affected information seeking behaviours, people mobility, economics and research trends. Examples of these epidemics are 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) epidemic in mainland China and Hong Kong, 2014–2016 Ebola epidemic in Guinea and Sierra Leone, 2015–2016 Zika epidemic in Brazil, Colombia and Puerto Rico and the recent COVID-19 epidemic in China and other countries. In this research article, we investigate the effect of large-scale outbreaks of infectious diseases on the research productivity and landscape of nations through the analysis of the research outputs of main countries affected by SARS, Zika and Ebola epidemics as returned by Web of Science Core Collection. Despite the mobility restrictions and the limitations of work conditions due to the epidemics, we surprisingly found that the research characteristics and productivity of the countries that have excellent or moderate research traditions and communities are not affected by infectious epidemics due to their robust long-term research structures and policy. Similarly, large-scale infectious outbreaks can even boost the research productivity of countries with limited research traditions thanks to international capacity building collaborations provided by organisations and associations from leading research countries.

Introduction. Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) is a useful tool in complex decision-making situations and has been used in medical fields to evaluate treatment options and drug selection. We aimed to provide valuable insights on the use ofMCDAin health care through examining the research focus of existing studies, major fields, major applications, most productive authors and countries, and most common journals in the domain using a scientometric and bibliometric analysis. Methods. Publications related to MCDA in health care were identified by searching the Web of Science Core Collection on 14 July 2021. Three bibliometric software programs (VOSviewer, Bibliometrix, and CiteSpace) were used to conduct the analysis. Results. A total of 410 publications were identified from 196 academic journals (average yearly growth rate of 32% from 1999 to 2021), with 23,637 co-cited references by 871 institutions from 70 countries or regions. The USA was the most productive country (n=80), while the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (n=16), Universite de Montreal (n= 13), and Syreon Research Institute (n=12) were the most productive institutions. The biggest nodes in every cluster of author networks were Aos Alaa Zaidan, Mireille Goetghebeur, and Zoltan Kalo. The top journals in terms of number of articles (n=17) and citations (n=1,673) were Value in Health and the Journal of Medical Systems, respectively. The research hotspots mainly included the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), decision-making, health technology assessment, and healthcare waste management. In the recent literature there was more emphasis on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarities to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). Big data, telemedicine, TOPSIS, and the fuzzy AHP, which are well-developed and important themes, may be the trends in future research. Conclusions. This study provides a holistic picture of the MCDArelated literature published in health care. MCDA has a broad application in different topic areas and would be helpful for practitioners, researchers, and decision makers working in health care when faced with complex decisions. It can be argued that the door is still open for improving the role ofMCDAin health care, both in its technologies and its application.

ABSTRACT

Purpose>The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has greatly impacted society and academic life and research practices. This study is an attempt to comprehend whether a global emergency of COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on researcher international collaboration. The authors analyze the research collaboration before and after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to understand how scientists collaborated within their own nation's borders and beyond.Design/methodology/approach>The authors analyze the research collaboration before and after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to understand how scientists collaborated within their own nation's borders and beyond. The authors collected a dataset of research publications published in journals in the research area of business and economics and indexed in the WoS Core Collection database by researchers from 11 countries (Austria, Denmark, Greece, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Korea (South), Mexico, Pakistan, Romania and Vietnam). In total, 14,824 publication records were considered for the literature analysis. This study presented the scientometric analysis of these publications using bibliometric, statistical, factor analysis and network analysis methods. The results are evaluated and interpreted in the context of the Hofstede's model of cultural dimensions. The results of this study provide evidence to research management to properly allocate their efforts to improve the researcher cooperation during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and to overcome its negative outcomes in the years to come.Findings>The results of our study show that uncertainty avoidance as the cultural factor defined by the Hofstede's model has significantly influenced the properties of research collaboration networks in the domain of business and economics. Uncertainty avoidance focuses on how cultures adapt to changes and cope with uncertainty, while the global COVID-19 pandemic introduced a lot of change and uncertainty all levels of society around the world.Research limitations/implications>The study exclusively examines 14,824 research outputs which have been indexed in the WoS Core Collection database from 2019 till 15 November 2020 and only covered one research area (business economics). Thus, documents published in any other different channels and sources which are not covered in WoS are excluded from this study. The authors have analyzed the publications from just 11 countries, which represent a small part of the global research output. Also, the Hofstede's cultural dimensions model is not a unique way to study cultural characteristics at the national level.Practical implications>The results of this study will provide evidence to research management to properly allocate their efforts to improve the researcher cooperation during the still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and to overcome its negative outcomes in the years to come.Originality/value>Considering the global impact and social distress due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, this study is significant in the present scenario for identifying the changes in the characteristics of research collaboration networks of 11 diverse (in terms of geographical distribution and cultural differences in terms of the Hofstede's cultural dimensions model) countries between 2019 (the year before COVID-19) and 2020 (the year of COVID-19), which has not been done before.
